Blue Sky Solar Boost 3024iL MPPT 40 Amp Solar Charge Controller

The Blue Sky Solar Boost 3024iL can regulate 12 volt solar electric systems up to 560 watts. The 3024iL can handle up to four 140 watt solar panels. With options this kit contains all the major components to get you started. IPN remote display includes 25' cable. Battery temperature sensor includes 20' cable.

From the Manufacturer

Patented Maximum Power Point Tracking technology allows Solar Boost 3024iL to increase charge current up to 30% or more compared to conventional charge controllers. Don’t waste your money by throwing PV power away!

Solar Boost 3024iL’s advanced fully automatic 3-stage charge control system will properly charge flooded lead-acid, AGM and GEL batteries resulting in improved battery performance with less maintenance. The dual 30/40 amp rating will deliver up to 30 amps in 24 volt systems, or up to 40 amps in 12 volt systems. An automatic or manual equalize function is also provided to periodically condition flooded lead-acid batteries. To further enhance versatility, a user configurable auxiliary output and Blue Sky Energy’s advanced IPN™ network interface are also included.

The user configurable auxiliary output can serve as either a 20 amp load controller, or as a 2 amp auxiliary battery charger. The load control feature can be used to limit excessive battery discharge in unattended remote systems, whereas the auxiliary battery charge feature is ideal for charging a separate battery such as the engine battery in an RV. The auxiliary output can also provide fully adjustable dusk to dawn lighting control.

Available Options
IPN Remote Display
The IPN-Remote display provides basic monitoring for 2512iX charge controller. A bright crisp low power LED display is used to provide excellent readability in any lighting. The Charge Status indicator LED light displays the present charge control system status, such as bulk charging, acceptance charging or float charging. The versatile IPN-Remote shows battery voltage as measured by the charge control system. When the battery is being charged the display toggles between battery voltage and charge controller solar (PV) output current. The IPN Remote Display is a little larger than a credit card.

Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS)
The battery temperature sensor allows the charge controller to continuously adjust charge voltage based on actual battery temperature. Temperature compensation of charge voltage assures that the battery receives the proper charge voltage as battery temperature changes during normal operation. Applying the proper charge voltage is critical for achieving optimum battery performance and longevity. The ideal charge voltage required by batteries changes with battery temperature.

Recommended Upgrade to IPN-Pro Remote - Provided full solar and battery system monitoring.
The IPN-Pro Remote  is a full featured charge controller monitoring and battery system information in a single easy to use remote display. With the IPN-ProRemote you no longer have to guess how much battery capacity remains. A high accuracy calculation of remaining battery capacity compensates for a variety of factors including charge/discharge current, battery size, type, temperature and how the battery was brought back to full charge. It even learns from past battery behavior to continuously improve accuracy!

Notes from the Installers
I have the 3024iL controller and the IPN remote in my 5th wheel and I am totally satisfied with both products. The 3024iL is much smaller dimensionally than its big brother the Solar Boost 50, something to consider if space is an issue. The 3024iL has combination 1/2" and 3/4" knockouts in the top and bottom of the controller for routing solar in and battery out connections. Terminal connections inside the wiring box are compression type and easily accept 8 guage wire.

The IPN Remote is just a little taller than a credit card and about the same length which makes it easy to mount in tight spaces. The display is actually smaller than the images below. The alternating array amps and battery voltage readout on the display is crystal clear and easy to read. The display also indicates via a blinking LED what state of charge the battery bank is in, bulk, acceptance or float.

If your photovoltaic system won't grow past 540 watts we highly recommend this fantastic controller! Another benefit is the SB3024iL is priced a little less than the SB50. The only negative thing we have to say is that the Solar Boost 3024iL will not bring a discharged battery back to life. This is normal for any controller that operates off of battery power. With a solar system this will never be an issue until your battery bank has reached the end of its shelf life.

The below image simulates the IPN Remote Display in "Bulk Charging" mode with a solid green LED and maximum current output.

IPN Remote in Blul Charge Mode

This image simulates the IPN Remote in "Acceptance Charging" mode with a slow blinking LED. Current will not be as high as bulk charging mode.

IPN Remote Display in Acceptance charge mode

This final image simulates the IPN Remote in "Float Charging" mode with a fast blinking LED. A live system that has reached float charge will only output a few amps.

What you need to Acquire
Length of 10 guage AWG wire to ground the controller to the chasis
Automotive type ATC fuse link and 40 amp (50 amp max) fuse
3 to 4 - 1/2" or 3/4" strain releifs (we prefer waterproof)
